Unexpected Attack Inside the School Premises

ATTACK SITUATION

If you hear an alarming or unusual noise within the school premises, the teacher should immediately implement the appropriate safety procedures to protect the students.

  1. Secure the classroom. Lock or secure the doors and windows as appropriate.
  2. Turn off the lights and close the curtains or blinds to prevent visibility from outside.
  3. Instruct students to duck and hide in a safe location, preferably away from doors and windows.
  4. Keep students quiet and calm. The teacher should remain with the students and maintain classroom safety.
  5. Keep communication lines open and wait for further instructions from school leadership or authorized emergency personnel.
  6. The teacher should monitor the situation from a safe location and should not expose themselves unnecessarily to danger.
  7. Do not open the door unless instructed by authorized school officials or emergency responders.

IF AN ATTACKER IS PRESENT

  • Duck, hide, and stay quiet in a safe location.
  • Do not confront, approach, or fight the attacker.
  • Do not attempt to communicate or negotiate with the attacker. Leave this to trained authorities.
  • Follow the teacher’s instructions and remain as calm and quiet as possible.
  • If the attacker leaves the area.  Try to protect your place quietly by locking the door or go somewhere you know its safe.
  • If a safe exit becomes available and authorities instruct you to evacuate, move quickly and quietly to the designated safe area.
  • Do not return to the classroom or school building until authorities declare it safe.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

STAY CALM • STAY QUIET • STAY HIDDEN • FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS
