     School Security is a comprehensive, layered system of policies, physical safeguards, and community practices designed to prevent harm, respond to emergencies, and maintain an environment where children can learn without fear and secured.

1. Prevention First. The best security stops incidents before they occur through controlled access, visitor screening, and staff awareness.
2. Preparedness. Regular drills (fire, lockdown, evacuation) ensure that if an emergency happens, response is automatic and orderly—not chaotic.
3. Proportionality. Measures must match the actual risk. An elementary school needs age-appropriate security: visible but not intimidating.
4. Community Responsibility. Safety is a shared duty. Teachers, parents, custodians, and even students play a role in reporting concerns and following procedures.

• Access Control: Locked perimeter doors, single-point entry, visitor sign-in, and ID badges.
• Surveillance & Communication: Security cameras, intercoms, and direct lines to local emergency services.
• Emergency Response Plans: Clear procedures for lockdowns, evacuations, shelter-in-place, and family reunification.
• Staff Training: Background checks, crisis response training, and mandatory reporting of suspicious behavior.
• Student Education: Age-appropriate lessons on stranger danger, online safety, and how to report bullying or threats.
